| advice for traveling to davao? im going through this point in my life where i want to experience a totally different environment and meaning to life, i live in the midwest, grew up in a small town in northern wisconsin and live down by chicago now, went from a slow paced dead end life to a fast paced party lifestyle, and with my job i meet a lot of people from asia, in particular a very sweet girl, that i have talked to for over 6 months on a daily basis, and her family is so opposite of mine and very helpful to each other and they have nothing but they are always happy no matter what, i send her $100 here and $100 there and she can make it go so far and it really helps them out, as here I piss that away in one night out to the bar. So I have always been a spur of the moment type person but have never left the usa, and I just booked a trip to Davao, I read a lot of bad things about mindanao but she told me the parts to stay away from and everyone of her friends and family i met have just been really nice, I would like to experience the things they go through and also maybe help them out and also put them on the right track, all my friends think im nuts, and maybe I am, but has anyone else went on one of these adventures. For one week I would love to be able to brighten up these peoples lives, and maybe i will find what i am looking for and make it permanent with this girl, but i am not sure because i really trust nobody, but any advice is better than nothing, thank you in advance. |

i don't know if this is a late reply but in case you still need advise, here's one. i'm from Davao by the way but practically grew up in Manila the capital of the country.main advise is, go ahead with your trip. Davao is the most safest place in Mindanao, it is even safer than any other city in the country. Here you could walk in the dead of the night and not fear muggers. The city mayor is known to be tough on crimes against peace and order. when you get here, hook up with a group of expats and foreigners. there's a lot. i know some also, you can see him in facebook search for John Grant. He's british and leads a group called friends of mindanao. he's now living permanently here in davao. on a place to stay, choose an apartelle where your girl can also stay and can bring her family. it would cost the same as a hotel. there's jogues (www.joguesphils.com) for one. for you to enjoy your stay, better get a rent a car. its difficult to ride the public transpo especially if you will bring along the girl's family (mostly, everything here is done with family members tagging along) by the way, 1 week won't be enough . there's a lot you can do here. just email me at benborj@hotmail.com if you need more advise. |
