Betra historical site

Jordan is one of places I been in love with. The country and the leadership is uniqe and well organized compared with the most arab nations even if you compare the finanical satution that Jordan is no comparable with most of the arab countries. I know if you go to UAE or Qatar or other Oil rich countries, you will find the infastructure is more modern. But the reallity is that Jordan resourses is not enough to do most of the required jobs need to be done. I wish that I can be part to make every part of Jordan as modern as possable.

Betra is the most senseable place I ever visited. Its great historic place and unfortunatly it is way humilated by even the jordanian citizen. This place, It could be better place and I have alot of concern about it.

My question is where all the officals? what they are doing? Are they alive?

Jordan have some other historical places but I didn't have the apportunity to visit all of them. but I did visited the Castle of Salah edden. Again, its not been taken care of but to be honest I notices abeter satuation than the Betra.

I am an Iraqi sitizen living in the USA. I bage the Outhirities of Joradnian Government to give some more attention to these places because its the country trusures and it can be part of the country economy. Jordan is my other country that I feel that the Iraqi people share the plasure and sadnest together.

Finally, sincerly I love you Jordan and I wish that the people of Jordan the best of the best.

I am not a geologist but I got sad that I see such places been ignored.

Thanks

Of course their officials are still alive, maybe they're just busy doing other things or maybe they don't really care about those places that your pertaining to. Too bad.

Where are the officials you ask? The answer is simple... like where any other officials are going and doing which includes going on luxuries out of the country trips which they say will help the country but the truth is they are just there for leisure. They are just spending your people's taxes for their own personal gains. I am not just saying that this happens in your country, it is all over the world. It is a sad reality.

True to that Ms? Shadira. Corruption and selfishness is the worst enemy of any government or individual could have. So each time I see corruption around me it really really sicken me.

Hey Mohammad salih, I've never been to betra and I also have no Idea where that place really is but from the way you describe it, you made curious about the place. I would appreciate if you could give more info or a link about Betra, Jordan. Thanks

This is confusing cause it is more popularly known as "Petra" and not "Betra".

It's fascinating rock structure cut and even included in the modern world's wonders

Wiki our friend, has more to say about this ancient city

I am also sicken by such obvious corruption by government officials. I have once seen an Asian news which feature Philippine police officials allegedly going on a Russian trips which was later caught that they had shipped over 6 million cash which was not reported to the customs department of Russia. Later, "concerned" officials questioned where did that money came from? Plus the fact that these generals included their wives with them. What is that? A vacation?

Hard Fact-er

Those known and hard facts is what makes the world "real" but that doesn't mean that everyone should tolerate these thieves in power. If only there is a good and stable law and law enforcing agencies to capture and bust these crooks then the world would be a better place, but as we all know these "thieves in power" have the ability to bend the law and corrupt law enforcers to their will thus making them "untouchables".

Everyone dreams of a perfect and peaceful society, but as we all know nothing is perfect or permanent in this world. what is permanent though is "change". With the newly inaugurated United states President in power I think there is still a hope for a more cleaner, peaceful and righteous governance. Hope President Barack Obama will not get into any scandals or commit wrong decisions which will affect how the people looks up to him.

Thank author of this post/commentWhat does Obama have to do with the history in Jordan?

You got me a bit confuse here because quoting from what you said:

"The country and the leadership is uniqe and well organized compared with the most arab nations even if you compare the finanical satution that Jordan is no comparable with most of the arab countries."

and later you are asking:

"My question is where all the officals? what they are doing? Are they alive?"

I thought that they're leadership is unique and well organized then why asked on where are the officials? It contradicts both of your statements.

To Beany from Kansas City,

Nope Barack Obama has nothing to do with the history of Jordan. If you are in the right mind you already know the answer. This isn't about the history of Jordan, its about the tourism of Jordan. It only broke out to the government system thanks to Mohammad Sali. I think Brenda mentioned a hope for a perfect society which can be role model ed by the Obama administration. She did not mention anything about Obama being part of Jordan's history.

I think what Brenda was trying to tell here is that Obama is one of the first American presidents people looks up to so much which should be a role model of all known or president worldwide, which also includes Jordan. Of course, Obama has nothing to do with Jordan so why even mention that Beany (if it is already obvious) and people are already mature and smart enough to know the difference without you rubbing it in.

Politics has always been the downfall and disappointment of every country. At the end of the day it is the people or the citizens who truly suffer from the neglect of irresponsible government officials. So much tax being poured into the National Treasury and these scoundrels are just draining the resources for their personal gains and greed. I think there is also a list of the most corrupt countries in the internet. Go check it out.

Haven't been to any Arabian Nations yet. Just curious, is it ok to freely move and go around like any normal tourists in a foreign countries busy roads? Just curious about it.

Ali, you engaged yourself in doublespeak. Firts, you were talking about the country being unique and less chaotic compared to other Arabian nations. You talked of an organized leadership. Before we could even digest that, you are talking about neglect of the tourism industry. The shift was quite confusing. I think the point you were trying to make is that the country's tourism industry has much potential and it is up to the leaders to tap into it.

President's Obama's entry into the whole scene is not at all misplaced. The whole topic drifted to leadership and I see nothing wrong in his co-option into a Jordan forum. Tackle what is at hand whiners!

Good leadership is always a reserve for only those countries that have unique structures in place. A country's state of affairs normally emanates from what can be said of its history. What did those that were before us have as laid down strategies? If they dared dream, it is upon the current generation to take that a step further. Unless there is a clear cut boundary where politicking stops, bad governance is going to be the bandwagon that will lead many nations into one common dungeon.

I bet to disagree. I think that good leadership depends clearly on those people who wants clean and transparent leadership. No mater how hard the country is undergoing it is still up to the people who is behind it to put it up on the pedestal. It does not necessarily mean that those who do not have 'unique structures' will get less leadership. It depends on the people of the country and the leaders.

I have to agree with Steve. Those country with less in terms of their technological development and modernization does not necessarily mean that they are to have less chance of transparent leadership. I think it all depends on the people in that country and the leaders that mold that certain country.

I also think that people would be open minded on all the possibilities they could do and changes they can make.

What famous places of tourist interest, are in the country?

Is it safe to travel the country? I always hear news about terrorism and I do not know much more of this country, apart from what I see in the news

well, my friends. This is a nice forum... I appreciate you all. In my opinion, the word is "corruption", in many countries when a official gets some power he/she immediately uses it for their own purposes. Corruption creeps in and ruins everything. Thatīs the end of social services, public works, etc.

I donīt about Jordan specifically, but where I live, it is a disaster!

Best wishes...!

where do you live Shalah? why its a disater where you live what kind of corruption are in your place?

I am sad to hear that Shalah. To think that you are living in a place that corruption and disasters are everywhere is saddening to the highest level :)

How do you manage to live in a place like that Shalah. I just that you and the other locals there copes well and stay safe.

By the way, where country or what country are you describing to us?

Well, there are certainly lots of countries that are just like what Shalah describes here in this forum. Those countries have politicians that are sick and just want to leech all of the people's money through their taxes.

And just like May, I feel sorry for what you are experiencing right now Shalah. I also hope that you and the people in your country manages to cope well with what is happening in your place.

I have seen this Petra or Betra when it was featured in History Channel's Digging for the Truth. It's just sad that Government of Jordan doesn't pay much attention to this ancient treasure and share it to the rest of the world. For me, the Mayan ruins is no match for the grandeur beauty of these Petra Ruins.

Here is an introduction about Petra

Petra is a prehistoric city in Jordan, which lies in the famous Wadi Araba Valley. Petra implies ‘rock’ in Greek and holds no record of an official population as there only some natives who permanently reside here. Petra is also a World Heritage Site and receives thousands of visitors every year.

The city has a moderate climate with summers ranging from mild to hot; winters, cold and rainy. The climate is mainly dry almost all year round. Evenings in summer are pleasant with cool breezes. Most of the rainfall received is in short showers. Spring and fall are pleasant times to visit.
